What Training Track is Best for You?

By Duncan Corby

If you drop onto our website you’ll discover that you can train with us for up to three years, or even more.

One of the important questions our new students have to think through is "how long will I study at Hillsong for?".

So let me take you through our programs, so you can get a feel for what each year offers, and what kind of training paths are available to you.

Vocational Training
Most of our students are enrolled in one of our vocational courses - which have a strong emphasis on developing practical skills for leadership and ministry.

These go for one, two or three years, with each additional year of training developing further as a disciple, leader and minister.

The first year of training will give you a Certificate IV in Ministry, where the goal is train you to be a great member of a ministry team.

The second year will give you a Diploma of Ministry, where you are trained to an effective leader of a ministry team. And then our third year will earn you an Advanced Diploma of Ministry, where you become a leader of other leaders.

The longer you train, the deeper and stronger will be your preparation for your future, making it more likely that you will fulfill God's plan for your life.

Higher Education
The other training track available to students is the Bachelor of Theology program that is delivered in partnership with Alphacrucis, a leading theological and ministry educator here in Sydney. Whilst it too develops practical ministry skills, its emphasis is on developing the biblical and theological understanding, reflective thinking and effective communication that undergirds and informs effective ministry. This is a three year program, where graduates come out with an internationally recognized degree.

Can I Study in Both?
The simple answer is "yes." What many students do is make use of the credit transfer options between our vocational courses and the bachelor program, to combine strong practical training with solid theological study. So, a student who completes the two-year Diploma in Ministry can then get one year's credit towards the degree. Alternatively, someone who has completed the Advanced Diploma of Ministry can get a year-and-a-half of credit towards the degree.

A great combination of study, then, and one we recommend highly, is two years in the Diploma and two years in the Degree. Fours years of training - to give you two qualifications, the heart and spirit of Hillsong, highly developed leadership skills and a great theological foundation. A great outcome for you and your future.
